Equipment Empty Equipment

We might have enough resources to create a few exteriors, but we will need a LOT of clothes, armor, and weapons. I mean, this place is tropical AND desert. There will have to be two main types of equipment to suit those. I don't know if there are any resources or not, but if there are, post here. Anything that seems Arab or African would most likely not suit Elsweyr. Unless it just screams desert cats.

From the Imperial library:
Their dress is an abundant shawl, commonly of brightly patterned cloth, for defense against the harsh sun and saber-cuts. Their chief attire, the budi, or shirt, is fastened in braids down the right side, not permitting any part of the torso fur to be seen, for such is believed to be highly indecorous. Jewelry and trinkets often adorn the costume, and tattoos are very popular. In some quarters, the latter can even have religious and legal significance. A recent trend among the younger ohmes is the application of feline facial tattoos that make them resemble their more hideous and savage brethren. The obvious weapon of choice among the khajiit are their claws, naturally sharp and retractable. Others, though, have mastered the use of the saber and scimitar, the dagger and the longbow.
Khajiit from Elsweyr have a common culture. Of course, there will be small differences between Anequina and Pellitine but their attires will probably be similar. For example, Telvannis aren't too different from Hlaalu.

For each set of clothes, we have to make a male and a female version. Too often, there is only the female version.
For weapons and armors, we could make vanilla ones (dagger, shortsword, broadsword, longsword, etc...) with a new material (I mean something specific to Elsweyr like glass and ebony for Morrowind but also race-specific like imperial, dwemer, nord, etc...) and new weapons with vanilla materials (at least iron, steel and silver and maybe daedric).
I've found some type of weapons we could make:
  • Kandjar/Jambiya(a curved dagger)
  • Kriss (a dagger with snake-like blade)
  • Tulwar (a sort of curved saber)
  • Kukri (a machete)
  • Katar (a bladed knuckle)
  • Shakram (do you know Xena, warrior princess ?)

But we first need concept art to have an overview of what our Elsweyr looks like. And all models don't have the same quality. Just collecting ressources and put them in game isn't good if, at the end, our mod looks like an awfull patchwork.

I have been careful with these resources and haven't found any varying quality to be noticeable. The palms have a slight texture anomaly, but that's it. The rest have a similar amount of quality. I like your idea of vanilla with new textures, and the new weapons with vanilla materials. And those suggestions are good. Only problem is that you are the only modeler with workable programs right now. I'm just trying to get past blender's damn interface. What modeling program do you use?

Khan: Some of Westly's clothes actually do look like they could be used in a desert or just as variety. The imperial robe looks like something you might see in Elsweyr or Hammerfell.

I'm using Blender 2.49b (with Python 2.6, Pyffi and Nifscripts)
I know Blender is difficult to learn because you have to remember a lot of shortcuts. But it's free and do the job as well as 3D Studio Max.

Like me. I'm finally setting up a version of 3D Studio Max that SGMonkey recommended. I'm good at Autodesk programs, especially 3D Studio max. I just have to make sure to do all of the little mapping and texturing things right. Anyway, in regards to westly's clothes, it would cause our mod to require Better Bodies to work right. If you think a province mod can safely do this, then we could try it. I didn't think of this at first but it popped in mind just now.

With "Better Clothes mods" some body parts don't disappear when they are equipped but I don't know if they clip with vanilla bodies. I think Better Bodies isn't require but you'll probably have to test. But esthetically, I think Better Bodies should be highly recommended. bounce
With Argonia, we have the only mod that could redo a vanilla race because we have more Khajiits races to do! If our new races have "Better Bodies", we'll probably have to change the vanilla Khajiits to match our standard.
Some prefer Liztail's ones but they have fingernails instead of claws. Others prefer Slof's ones but they are too different from vanilla. We'll probably have to make another. A mix of the two, maybe? (But I disgress and we have another topic for this.)
Luckily, beast races aren't included in Better Bodies. We can change Khajiits whitout forcing the player the use of Better Bodies for the other races.

For the material used in Elsweyr, we could add equipment made with Moonstone. It won't be really stones from the moons but a stone which can be infused with magical moonlight. It's not neccesary glowing. It could be something rare with an important spiritual meaning for the Khajiits that's why you don't see that outside Elsweyr.

If you really want glowing stone material, it is said that the surroundings of the Halls of Collossus have been polluted by its magic and rocks are glowing here (radioactivity?).

Nah, radioactivity isn't right because there are many magical glowing stones that have no negative effect on the life of Tamriel.

We should make the catsuit like in Daggerfall. It is said it come from Elsweyr. Maybe could it be used as a uniform for the Guild of Thieves?

Yes, that'd help. How would we explain a dwemer saber? Maybe a leftover from their travels to Hammerfell?

this is a scimitar i downgraded from a skyrim mod. It is a resource. from weapons of the third era. the same one chainy pulled from. But it needs a better uv edit than i ended up with.

But the glass weapons in the ES series are made from a crystal called glass.

You should be able to use the existing UV co-ords. Also, like Ryu said, it needs to be scaled down, iirc you just need to set it to 75% of what it is in TES V
