These are the most notable cities of Elsweyr, if you didn't already know. The Capitol of Elsweyr is Torval, which lies southwestern, near the Valenwood Border.

Alabaster

Corinthe

Dune

The Halls of Colossus

Orcrest

Rimmen

Riverhold

Senchal

*Torval
Huh. I'm getting excited about creating these already. bounce

Senchal will be cool. Seeing as its a port town and is ugly as crap. And has many abandoned districts. And moon-sugar addicts. I think a random attack or two in a poor district could keep some realism eh? I think I'll draw up some concepts...

Is there going to be a flat empty desert with a few rocks in it? That sounds like my level of skill. XD LOL Seriously though, is there?

I've always wanted to see a desert in Morrowind! Now my dream will be realized! But yes, there is much desert on this mod. The southern pocket will be tropical and greenish though.

The Cities of Elsweyr Empty Re: The Cities of Elsweyr

Post by Le Grimacier Mon 27 Feb 2012, 3:50 pm

A bit of lore that I could gather on the cities of Southern Elsweyr:

Senchal

Capitale of the Kingdom of Pellitine. Greatest port of Tamriel. Assortment of bazaars, taverns, merchant quarters and open-air market ringed on three sides by crowded harbour. Many quarters and neighborhoods were razed during the Khanaten Flu. Recently, a part of the city has been rebuilt in a beautiful costal sea resort. Ya'Tirrje, the Gold Cat (and the biggest druglord of Elsweyr) have a villa and pay for keep the city safe and crime free. But there is the Black Keirgo, the most squalid and dangerous quarter, full of sugar-dens and sugar-addicts (I think this area could be separated from the rest of the city or "hidden" from the "touristic" part as if it is in quarantine).

Torval
Capitale of Elsweyr Confederacy. There is the Mane's Palace, built all in oaks from Valenwood with its symetrical sugarcanes gardens. It is probably fortified because noone can see the Mane when he meditates in the gardens, even imperials ambassadors. There is also the Temple of Two-Moons Dance, finest training ground in Tamriel for warriors of foot and fist. (In others versions, it is said Temple was in Ne Quin-al but this city has been destroyed. Perhaps the Temple has been rebuilt here?)

Corinthe
Notable center of skooma trade. Have a Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and a Guild of Mages (It is not said other don't have one). Ya'Tirrje have a villa here too and a important drug-smuggling business.

Black Keirgo will have some dangerous folks within some side passages that will attack upon sight. Some have enough sense to just ask for skooma. There will be three possible answers when they ask you for skooma.
1. You tell them you will give them some skooma.
2. You tell them you don't currently have any.
3. You tell them to screw off basically, and they get pissed and attack.
(These folks will not be essential to anything else in the game so killing them will have no bad consequences.)

The Cities of Elsweyr Empty Re: The Cities of Elsweyr

Post by The Old Ye Bard Wed 14 Mar 2012, 8:42 pm

Alabaster is no longer; the city was annexed by the Empire (along with the western shore of the Niben River), and renamed Leyawiin -the Renrijra Krin formed as a rebel faction shortly thereafter, in an attempt to re-take the area (though, unorganised, they are essentially bandits).

IRL, this was Bethesda's cover-story for needing a city in Southern Cyrodiil while developing Oblivion -Alabaster was already there, so they took that and renamed the city Leyawiin.

As for Elsweyr being desert in the North, far from it -you're thinking of central Elsweyr, which is badlands and desert, Northern Elsweyr ("The Plains of Anequina") around Orcrest, Riverhold, etc is praries and grassy plains:

“The plains of Anequina stretched out to the horizon....it was green. The tall grass of the upland prairies had been replaced by a short stubble, but that still seemed a far cry form the naked sand he'd been expecting. Streams were visible by the swaying pals, light skinned cottonwood, and delicate tamarisk that lined them. A herd of red cattle grazed in the near distance.
Riverhold was visible a bit east, spring up at the convergence of three duty-looking roads. The walls were saffron, irregular, and not particularly high. Behind them, domes and towers of faded azure and cream, vermilion and chocolate, gold and jet, crowded together... It was a city that seemed at once tired and exuberant.” p.144, The Infernal City.

We meant Northern Elsweyr in general. We have discussed the border areas and what you told us here is what was planned. Thanks for the info on alabaster but we are kinda throwing out any oblivion and post oblivion lore. Not all will be thrown out, just the radical nonsense such as this. We may or may not include Alabaster. It's a matter we will think about when we get there. If there is plenty of room for it, we will definitely include it. If the space is needed for other things, Alabaster may just go on with oblivion...

It's not "radical nonsense", nor is it revisioinist lore -the land was annexed after Uriel Septim returned from oblivion (at the end of the Imperial Simulacrum, TES I: Arena), meaning that in the timeline, during Daggerfall, and Morrowind, Alabaster had already been annexed (the maps post-Arena, Daggerfall's World Map during the race-choosing screen, and the maps of the provinces found in reflect this), and renamed Leyawiin -and given you're working with P:C, who are Leyawiin themselves (which occupies the same space on the heightmap), it poses an issue of modability -it also means you miss out on including the Renrijra Krin faction, formed around this lore.

We won't include alabaster. I know you know your lore. I don't see how it poses an issue of modability. Since Alabaster is Leyawiin, we WILL NOT include it. The Renrijra Krin, as you said, are basically just bandits. If they are what you say, leaving them out wouldn't be a huge problem. The fact that they are widely known contradicts that. They probably could be included as a small faction similar to the Twin Lamps in that they don't really have a HUGE presence but still have some related quests and such. I couldn't see making a whole HQ for them but implementing a few members around Elsweyr seems like a good idea to me. I like it when lore junkies help out. It helps to ensure the reality and cohesiveness of this project.

Not just any lore junkie, I've been leading an Elsweyr mod for Oblivion the past couple years, and now moving to Skyrim; I know it like the back of my hand -and willing to share assets (models, textures, literature, etc), share our insights into lore and so forth.

The Renrijra Krin, as you said, are basically just bandits.

Kind of; it's more a case they lack organistation, and regularly take on actual bandits (even non-Khajiit) to help further their cause/swell their numbers . I'd be posting links to relevant lore about now, but your forum settings mean I'm barred from doing so for the next week (doing a search on the UESP for "Renrijra Krin" will yeild their page on the wiki, with links to supporting references (including their Manifesto "Ahzirr Traajijazeri").

I thought we fixed the link problem...I'll check in on it...couldn't find it. I guess you could post it with spaces in it. That could trick the system. Just dont put the http thing or it will make a link.

That's a fan-made map, developed back around 2006-2007 -it's rather inaccurate, and while it does have a fair amount of locations, it's best not to use this as a first point of lore (one of the biggest issues is none of the provinces are correctly scaled, and many have been skewed, like Elsweyr).

Check out mine, which is much more up-to-date and lore correct (though lacks info on towns and smaller locations) -I'd post a link, but the forum setup is not allowing me to. Google "elsweyr-map-old-ye-bard" however, and it'll be the first result.

Currently working on another one of Elsweyr, and a more up-to-date Tamriel map for TIL that will make the others redundant in terms of lore accuracy.
